I'm new to Backerkit. What is going on here?

Backerkit is a ‘crowdfunding’ site - a place that allows artists and creative people to pre-sell items that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to fund having made otherwise. In case of detailed custom pins like ours, they need to be ordered in large quantities, costing 10s of 1000s of dollars. This format lets us figure out what people want in advance and order pins to fill those orders. By helping us get the items made, we offer you a nice discount off the normal retail price per pin ($25-35 each). When you purchase something from us on Backerkit (by choosing a tier in the ‘Pledge Levels’ campaign tab or on the right side scrolling list, you are agreeing to buy an item (or items) and we will make them, update you about their progress (via email), and mail them when they are finished, along with some thank you freebies for your patience and support. You’re basically an earlybird and patron of the arts, allowing for creative work to be made by being an early funder, and getting some special perks and discounts from us in return.

How do I pick which pins (or stickers, earrings, etc.) I want? I don't see the option here.

Don’t worry, you will be asked for your exact choices later. When the campaign ends on closes on June 5th, then your card will be charged for your pledge. Soon after (it takes about 2 weeks for me to get the final data about pledges), we will send out a survey via email and there you get to pick which pins or items you want! That way you get a choice from anything that gets unlocked/becomes available all in one place at the end of the project.

Can I pick pins from the previous campaigns for my pledge?

The pledges here are for the current project only, but all backers will get access to an add-on shop (which lets you pick from a wider variety of items with combined shipping) which will offer all of last year’s pins, pendants, and earrings at a discount, so if there are any you are missing or want more of you’ll have that chance to add them after this campaign closes!

For the 5 pin sets, can I choose my own pins/substitute pins?

The 5 pin sets come packaged together as a group, so substitutions are not allowed. Individual replacements would be way to hard for us to track and make sure there were no mistakes during fulfillment at this scale, and we want to make sure your order is exactly right! There are 10 and 20 pin tiers where you can choose all the individual pins and make your own set if you like. Thank you for understanding.

Are all the pins available as earrings or pendants? What are those choices?

There are four potential pendant options that can unlock if they meet their funding goals (“stretch goals”) - Blue Jay, Red-Tailed Hawk, Himalayan Griffon Vulture, and Red-Crowned Crane. They are shown on the campaign with necklace chains and are described as pendants. The same goes for earrings - the available options are shown as earrings and labeled as such. With some creativity and crafting skill, people have previously converted pins into pendants on their own but they don’t come that way as an option here unless specifically listed as a pendant or earrings.

When will my items ship?

We are on track with the campaign shipping estimated dates, and will keep in touch via project updates.

If you ordered only stickers and nothing else those should ship out late July 2025.

If you ordered anything else, we estimate shipping around October-November 2025. We will be in touch via updates about how the manufacturing process is coming along and any potential delays, but are currently on track for on-time delivery.

Pre-order store items (purchased without a campaign pledge) will ship after the initial campaign pledges have been fulfilled, estimating mid to late November 2025.

Can I substitute out pins from the sets?

No, because of the scale of this project and wanting to be sure that every order gets out exactly right, we cannot offer substitutions on the tiers that come with established sets (such as the 5 pin sets or all pin sets).

Will the pins come on backing cards?

No. The pins are so big the backing cards would have to be huge, basically postcard sized, and would increase the cost of production and shipping for everyone pretty prohibitively. Many people just throw backing cards away, as well, generating a lot of waste we’d like to avoid.

What is your policy on lost/stolen/damaged packages?

Please understand we do everything we can to make sure your package gets to you, but once it leaves us and we have sent you the tracking information, it is out of our hands. If you are worried about potential postal issues please contact us before ordering to discuss extra insurance or having the package marked to be held at your local post office for pickup.

Shipping Insurance is available to purchase through our add-on store (please contact us before placing your order if you have special delivery instructions such as hold at post office for pickup). Purchases are not insured beyond standard default USPS coverage unless requested by buyer before purchase (there is a small additional cost for this service). Insurance is offered through the shipping company and claims must be processed through them.

Tracking / delivery confirmation of your package will be sent (please check your spam folder for an email from [email protected] if you have not received the tracking number within a few days of your order being marked as shipped). We are not responsible for delivery errors on the part of USPS or the shipping company. Claims for damaged, mis-delivered, undelivered, or potentially stolen packages (with our provided proof of shipping and/or delivery through tracking/delivery confirmation) have to be made directly to your local post office or shipping center on the rare occasion that this happens.

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
